About us

The Salt & Light Preservation Centre, established in 2011 and registered as a charity with the Inland Revenue Department, is to preserve and promote the culture and the ecological environment of Yim Tin Tsai Village.

The Centre is authorised for the village affairs by the Joint Council for Development of Yim Tin Tsai St. Joseph Chapel, which is formed by the Village Committee and the Sacred Heart Church Sai Kung. The Centre’s Board of Directors is to set policies, to supervise and monitor the operations taken charge by the Executive Committee through the functioning of various task groups. The members’ annual meetings are to review and approve auditor’s reports and to examine development projects.

Yim Tin Tsai was one of a few Hakka villages in early days of Hong Kong that all villagers turned Catholic. In the past two centuries, the Village witnesses itself the first settlement, from prosperity and bustle to downfall, and recently the revamp of a new Yim Tin Tsai. In its vision, the Village will not only be conserved but also be embedding elements of culture, religion, ecological environment and tourism.

The villagers establish this Centre as a non-profit-making organization on their own initiative. Through guided tours, workshops, theme experiencing and etc., they aim to let more people get to know the nostalgia, nature and simple lifestyle of the island, as well as to refresh bodies and minds. We work collaboratively to preserve one more pure land for the next generation.
