The century-old camphor tree is the most iconic tree in the village. Camphorwood carries a special meaning in Yim Tin Tsai: whenever a baby girl is born in the village, villagers will plant a camphor tree. When the girl grows up and gets married, her parents will harvest the fully-grown camphor wood for use as a dowry. This century-old living camphor tree has a distinctive feature – the interior of the trunk is hollowed out if one looks in the hole from the base of the tree. Although the core of the ancient trunk is dead, the tree is still thriving and the live crown is ever green and pleasant. This century-old camphor tree is well-regarded as a spiritual symbol of Yim Tin Tsai by villagers.
